I only had a look at the sprite sheet, and true, it isn't as extensive as I had it in mind. Still, I wouldn't see that as a very worthwile passtime.

eru: "if I were somehow personally involved with the people making it and if it was extraordinarily promising". I haven't taken a closer look at the OpenGameArt project, but seeing a spritebase such as this already doesn't make me want to. I've grown bitter offline, haven't drawn more than 5 or so sketchbook pages the past year and don't sleep much anymore.. to no otherwise satisfying end :). I think I'm going to be a barber.

mia: I don't think it would take longer than 5 hours to make an item or armor set for this.

Top_Bug: lol

So you prefer working for free for a game, rather than for little money for an art repository.

Is there something (besides one more digit) that might make you want to contribute? There was a poll asking what might.

I wouldn't. Only if I were somehow personally involved with the people making it and if it was extraordinarily promising. It obviously is a small spare time project that won't help you get your name out anywhere, there are better ways to get together presentable work for a portfolio - mockups or sprites where you have full say over the outcome for example, you just have to present it the right way afterwards.
The pay is in no relation to the amount of work. 150$ would exact about 5 hours of work at a reasonable salary, a sprite sheet this extensive will take you multiple times longer.
If they were to pay everybody who pitched (say two completed views of the sprite) and then extra pay for the ones to complete theirs I would say yes. If you need money, you'd be better off mowing lawns ;)

thats just life, if youre doing it for money youre going to try to get it done so you can do the next thing for money

with personal art and shit the current piece is all that exists, and your last piece of work is all that matters

more money definitely makes for motivation but its more motivation of how someone else is going to percieve or enjoy your shit, rather than growth and whats true and really good to urself

Dang, zach keeps it real

I think competitions are and always have been a place for art, look at Brunelleschi and Ghiberti for the Gates of Paradise, to pick one example.

I dont really understand your chart.

I don't see the reason for this.. such a competition for measly stuff like this is unappealing and down right weak..

sorry for my assy mouth.. but that's what I feel.

Create an item/armor/whatever set for this sprite. Give it a free license. Win 100$ or 50$ or nothing. Only one problem remains:

Are competitions a valid 'place' for art? Would they be that if the prize was 1000$ and 500$? Are free licenses a problem? Or just confusing?

PS: The contest can be red about here.
