thanks dudes!

@fofig: I set the paper texture to color burn instead of multiply and used some good ole soft noise. I'm glad you like it! I think it makes sketchpaints much more sellable as a whole because sometimes digital can get a bit mundane.

@faktablad: oh yeah man, I totally forgot to angle the mouth with the eye haha. Good eye! . u . as a draftsman I fall short a lot

@xion: so glad you like em. daaat nooosse it haunts me it does . n .

I omitted texture because I think this benefits from the smudgey smooth without speckles.

also let it be known that I simply suck at painting traditionally.

The red alien fetus-looking thing is so sick! I can see by looking at it how much your skills with digital painting and lighting have improved. The one thing that rubs me the wrong way about it is its left eye--looks smaller and higher up than the right one.

@David: Yeah, it's kind of depressing seeing that I only do sketchpaints. I do some more polished stuff in my art class but I'm not motivated there either. Time to get some motivation, then!

@Adam: Thanks! Digipainting and Pixel Art aren't too far off from each other. Try it!

reminds me of my sketchbook, with all the floating heads.
i like the "nemo potest" one best of these new ones, the shape of the guys head in 'odysseus retegit' seems off in some way, i think it's that the forehead slopes back so steeply that, combined with the weight of all that hair on the back, gives the head a slanted/sloping feel. Also the spear throw looks like a toss but I'm sure you know that.

and just to catch up: triforce crotch, dr house, and gameboy guy are my favorites

Thanks for the nice comments!

@quark: eek yeah face anomalies, didn't see them. Totally will be wary of cheek contours in the future.

@ampersand: yus. Small neck was kind of intentional on the second one but I didn't quite complete the look. I had originally imagined him really stressed and as gnarf said, nervous. But I got carried away with the yellows and got caught between expressions. Absolutely understand and note the big head syndrome I seem to have.

@gnarf: right on! will try to work bigger in the future, I usually do but as of late I enjoy seeing the pixels as they will appear. little fetish from pixel art I think.

Latin project. Again 1:1 paintings, but since it's not like an actual art project, I was having fun with speedpaints, and I don't think the brushes showing is actually relevant here. But I'll definitely get back into the habit of drawing at 2:1!

i dig your skintones man. i agree with ampersand on the size restraint. as for the neck, it's not a problem to me. it adds to his character. for example, if you made his face a little more nervous, he'd seem like a wimpy knight to me. with a beefier neck, that would all change.

good stuff

it might help if you work bigger, that way you have more liberty with your brush sizes. in addition to what quark said, the second dude's neck is pretty thin, and both have seemingly small bodies, giving the appearance of big heads. they look good though, keep it up.

Those new faces look really nice dude, but I think they would benefit from a little more working to smooth out some of the brush lines and stuff. There are also some generally oddities in the anatomy of both faces, particularly the jaw outline on the left of the first one, and the right of the second one, but otherwise they're very nice man. Skin tones are difficult to imitate, since skin is somewhat translucent, meaning it picks light up in an interesting way.

hey sorry for not getting back with my revision, never got around to it. Would hate to look like I was ignoring critique. Worked on it with David's advice in mind before I had to catch the bus in the morning last monday. It's a self portrait by the way. As such, yeah I had to keep the dry eyes and harsh division in my lower lip.

@gnarf: I was wearing a hood, so that flatness is caused by the shadow cast by it! : D
I got an A-, and it was kind of late ._.

Sketchbook! I should work bigger but I'm addicted to pressing my nose against the page . U .

the random challenge on pixelation... I don't know what to think of it so I kind of stopped working on it.

very nice man. the only thing that's bothering me is that his left side falls flat. you should have a curvature of light around the cheek and forehead to really round that out. hope that's clear.

otherwise, it's lookin' sweet

I like it a lot. Though, his bottom lip looks like it has a gash out of it, and the way his nose is makes it look like his right nostril is really high up on his face. The skin tones are a little too close to clay for my tastes, and his eyes are dry. Though, to be fair, I'm a sucker for overly glossy, I'm-about-to-cry looking eyes.

And, in response to your scans up there, the world can always use more House/Hugh Laurie drawings.

opinions? I've got until tomorrow when I make a print and hand it in.

just a tiny bit burned into my eyeballs so I need a little bit of time before I make final adjustments and refinements

Thank you everyone.

@xion: whoops yeah. even my lips are bigger than that! and I'm the definition of white.

@gnarf: you would, wouldn't you. : D

@darion: she's the best.

@Viktor: I noticed that a while ago but don't think there's a problem with it, it just feels the most natural.

Speaking of leftward faces:

Two hours so far. The lighting changed so I had to stop. (haven't really done much to the right side yet)
