All of my works are traditional. I've tried digital but it doesn't do much for me. Could you tell me what about the anatomy doesn't sit right? maybe use one of my pictures as an example and actually point it out to me? I need an outsider to do it, because I'm trying but it doesn't seem to be improving =S

With the shading...I DID make a concious effort to darken it. I think part of my problem is that I don't have dark enough skin-like shades to use, so I'm going to buy some and see if that makes a difference. But I totally agree with the not casting a shadow. I'll fix that =)

It's a bit frustrating because this picture has more depth, and isn't so glowy glow dream-like...but I have to take photographs of it because it's too big for my scanner and it just sacrifices so much quality. I think I'm going to have to invest in a large scanner.

Oh yeah, and it's totally *not* a strap on ;P

Thankyou for your input! I'll work on it some more and see if I can track down an office works to scan it!

Is this traditional or digital? It looks digital. The reason I ask is from the wording of " wash". Also, I agree- and actually even though your pieces are a lot about design, I think you can still have that and not sacrificing believability. It seems these two girls are standing in front of a wall, with light coming from the top right, but they don't seem to cast any shadows. I think doing some anatomy studies- and focusing on the structure of things, would allow you to bend and exaggerate the human form like you want to- but do it based more on knowledge so things feel a bit more solid. Right now your shading is always very soft, to the point where it looks like you don't want to put and sharp shadows for the fear it doesn't actually rest on an anatomical landmark that would create such a shadow. Other than that these pieces are very pleasing to the eye- whether or not the subject includes girls with odd tits and strap-ons.

I like this, but I think I need to add a blue wash to the background to make the character on the left pop more.

Well, I worked on it some more today and I went outside and took a photo of it when it wasn't so horribly sunny and gross melbourney weather and the difference between the two pictures is huge. I actually like it a bit more now. I added more blues, added some highlights and darks, went right over the background in blue. I think it's a bit better.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your feedback. I showed it to my boyfriend and he said the same thing. So weirdly enough I started working on what that photomanipulated version looks like and then you posted it! Not as purple, but I've added some oposites to try and make it pop more, so hopefully I've helped improve it a bit.

With the colours I use, I need to keep working on them, but that's really the colour pallette that I want. I want that to be one of the themes in my work but I guess I just need to practice and experiment more with subtle blues or something to accentuate it. I totally agree about it all blending and going flat, so hopefully doing that and not being afraid of having bold shadows in my work might improve it all.

Thanks again for all your help! I'll repost asap.

Hope you don't mind, but I sort of took what quark said and what I thought would make the picture look nicer, and then did adjustments in Photoshop.

One thing I hadn't noticed, but when I did I loved, was the subtle blueness of the hands. That just looks cool. But in general I'd agree with quark and say that a less uniform palette would greatly improve your work and give it a quality that it doesn't quite have yet.

Yeah, I've gotta say, this worked far better when it was a line drawing.

Your colors really take away from what was a really nice composition. What's strange is that the colors actually flatten it out for me and just detract from what are some really solid lines. I also feel like the background you chose to add isn't working either. I don't know if there's anything I would rework here, as that would just make it look OVER-worked I think, but you should keep them in mind on the next one. Think very carefully about your color combination in terms of setting up the space. Think about warm and cool colors and how they can push things forwards or backwards. Right now, your figures and your backgrounds mesh too much. Backgrounds should be more neutral and simply accent what's going on.

I think you've got some really cool ideas going on here, and I look forward to seeing the next one!

Okay, there's the end of it. I was really happy with it and now I'm very angry. I think the background lets it all down, but I checked my references and the shading's right, the sandstone is right. I don't know what else to do. I was relying on this to be an awesome piece for my Curvy submission and now I'm just annoyed.

Any ideas? keeping in mind that this has already been coloured and there's not much I can change.

You don't necessarily have to wait until you're done. If you feel like absorbing more suggestions into it, you could post it in an unfinished stage so that you can incorporate ideas given at that time into the finished work. Plus, I think we'd all be excited to see some more work from you sooner rather than later.

Totally makes sense, thanks dude. That that sketch I put up I've been working on with colour this week and I've done my best to take what you guys have told me and put it in to action. I haven't tried eliminating the shading, but I've tried to amplify it like you said. Also working on textures!

Soooo, I'll put it up when I'm done and you can let me know what you think =)

I'd say you're over relying on line. That is, your use of shade to demonstrate plane seems halfhearted. I think there are two ways to imrpove these pieces. You can eliminate the shading, or you can amplify it. I don't know if this makes sense, let me know and I'll explain what I think more. Just trying to offer something to see what you think.

those dicks really creep me the hell out.

Otherwise I really dig your stuff, looking through your flickr.

what kind of stands out to me though is that they something about them all seems so two dimensional. I dunno, the light seems to be everywhere and nowhere at once, and, though there are shadows, they don't feel like they're really being cast by anything, and they're so soft. It all feels like it's a very cloudy day. I mean I guess it kind of lends a dreamlike feel to the stuff but at the same time it makes them feel less substantial, I think. Less weighty or massy I guess. Anyway yeah.
