honestly adam, you're really improving. just look at the last two figures compared to your previous ones. it's gradual progress man, you'll see. we'll ALL SEE!

Thanks a lot guys, it really means something to me to hear honest feedback. :)

I pixeled myself a new avatar, too.

    Oh and also, a painting:

the guy's arm is screwed up, it should be foreshortened into the horizon but i got fed up with it. otherwise i'm satisfied. cell phone quality like always. :o

man, i dig the focus you got on your work. i mean, you're drawing and painting and stuff more than i could ever get myself to do. that last one, really just work on the forms cause it's falling flat in a lot of places. you're trying to convey so many textures too quickly it looks like, so they end up looking the same in some spots, like the sky and the tree. keep it up man.

and i love love love the avatar. you have no clue man.

yeah i know, i'm still trying to get used to using brushes and perfect the medium i'm working in. it'll take a while, but it just takes practice... and ambition ;)

and i'm glad you like it. it was gnarf-inspired!

Man your productivity shames me. Keep it up.

I like your avatar too. Especially the > side of his face.

Wondering how large these paintings are?

Most are just 9x12, unfortunately. that's why it's harder to get detail down, in my case anyways..

in any case, follow me on the long journey to turn this sketch into a pixel!

    some colors subject to change.

i really like that, could maybe do with a little more saturation in parts but otherwise it is noice. Also the perspective on the top of the bridge might be a little off but it makes the image more appealing to me. Totally reminds me/makes me want to play rayman.

I actually like the lower saturation. makes it look kind of muted cloudy sunny or something.

In any case, it looks loverly. Good stuff, that.

Hey, that's really cool! I like it. I think there could be more gray in the trees. Other than that this is a great leap forward from your other paintings . D .

hey, thanks atnas! good to hear you think it was a step forward for me, i've been practicing. still got miles, no, leagues, to go before anything too impressive ;D

chalk and pencil! john singer sargent master copy.

Damn, leagues were just traveled. Aside from the aforementioned ear, that's quite impressive. No doubt the best thing you've posted.

not much to show, but i haven't had a lot of painting time recently, and the one i did paint's colors and size are distorted trying to take a photo of it with my cell phone. i've been mainly drawing faces and anatomy lately, i've got a eugene delacroix portrait study i'll try and get up later.

thanks for all your comments, guys, i really appreciate them :)

Im sure she'll like that painting, tell me if she kisses you for it ;D
did you use a reference for it? I feel that I can make a half decent figure from imagination, but with landscapes im lost without reference. Without reference your mind will also generalize, or idealize forms a bit too much- leaving you with a painting of SYMBOLS of trees, and water, and clouds, and not a painting of the value SHAPES that would be pieced together to create such a scene.

I think you're on the right track with your studies. Do you want to do art for a living, or is it merely a hobby for you?

At some point, a living, I'd say. Although I'm also looking into maybe being an art teacher, as I really love helping people and watching them grow and expand, especially with art. :)

Thanks for the comment, though! The girl I'm giving this one too isn't a close girl, though the one I gave that old Santa way up in the page IS. So, who knows, maybe she'll inspire more work off of me? ;)

I need to do more anatomy studies at this point, same with drapery. We've been doing lots of gestural stuff and contour studies in art class, though I don't think any of you would care to see those...

Also, for good measure, here's two pixel doodles:

Adam your pixels are redank I'm really into them. You really know what your doing.

I also think you're doing a good job with your studies. I love to see this dedication in people, its one of the traits I most enjoy in other artists no matter what kind of art they're making. I think repetition is the master teacher, and you seem to have registered for his class, so dont drop out. As the months go by it will be impossible for you not to improve, and you'll get addicted to it if you arent already (you probably are).

One general comment is to always remember the form of things. Always think of whether what you are doing helps communicate that form. If its not, ask yourself what the use is in surface features without form.

The last master study was good, is that michelangelo? when you do those copies, take a second to appreciate their mark making, my teacher encouraged me to do so a while back and i had never realized how well each and every stroke indicates form. its mesmerizing.

great advice, retronym. sorry i haven't kept yall' updated, soccer and school have been taking up a lot of time, but i'm loving it. art class is also in, so in a few days i will hopefully post a lot more than what i'm posting tonight:

sprite of Totodile; my favorite of all the Pokemon.

    just a small pixel!

a cell-phone blurred painting... hopefully you can get the idea; the colors were much stronger and warmer in the piece.

and last, for now, a new sketch/WIP of a bard upon a cliff...
