i was in the first australian audience to see the screening of that banksy film. wow cool... not really. i didn't expect much from the film, but it's actually really, really good. showcasing to the mass public how an artist (not banksy, but maybe him too) can rise to the top just through pure hype. fucking dude walks away with over million dollars worth of sales at his first show. wank.
i think this is really, really cool.

Just ordered Ongaloo, a book of art by Eye, who's also the frontman of Boredoms.
http://counterfeitnessfirst.blogspot.com/2007/11/eye-ongaloo.html
Very pumped.
-
oh shit man, awesome book. more people need to listen to boredoms. have you checked out many of their other projects?
-
I couldn't agree more dude, boredoms is pretty much my favorite band at this point. Not only do they have so many fantastic albums, but BOADRUM9 was the best live show I've ever been to. I've listened to a few side projects and stuff, anything in particular you've heard that you think I might have missed?
-
thanks amper, boredoms are rad
-
DEFINITELY check out ROVO. here's the album MON. it's so good. another great one is pyramid.
There's also OOIOO, hanatarash for your noisy side, Omoide Hatoba, and eye's solo work under DJ 光光光. Planetary Natural Love Gas Webbin' 199999 is insane.
did you know boredoms fucking did the soundtrack for ichi the killer?
and dude, I got too see boadrum 9 too, fer 5 bucks. best live show hands down. they played at my performing arts center. AND DEERHUNTER OPENED FOR THEM WHAT THE FUUUUUHHH how did this happen
-
Dudes, I'm gonna sound like an asshole but..
For me there seems to be some kind of hipster hype around the boredoms. I honestly find them a bit too random some times.. (Sometimes I feel they are a bit pretentious too)
Share some videos! I'd love to be proven wrong.

You definitely don't sound like an asshole. I still have trouble getting into a lot of Boredoms' earlier stuff--not really my thing. The music is sort of a clusterfuck of different noises and textures, a lot like John Zorn or Looney Tunes soundtracks. I think maybe they were just trying to be as random and crazy as possible, and I think if anything they came very close to accomplishing that. But I don't actually know what they were going for. I'm not sure what you've heard by them, but they've changed styles a lot in 25 years so it's possible that there's stuff you could love that you've been missing. I know if I just heard their first albums I would be turned off.
What first got me into Boredoms was their song "Super Going" off of the album Super æ. What really stood out to me about the song was how trance-like it is. The guitar tone is incredible, and I fell in love with the two-drummer dual breakbeat pattern. Equally imporant is all the timbral experimentation that Eye does. The combined effect is spacey, almost spiritual, like the band is driving a rocket towards the sun (most of my favorite Boredoms songs have this effect. It's really what I like about them most). Here's a youtube clip of the song, ignore the shitty video.
In my opinion, Boredoms' greatest achievement is the album Vision Creation Newsun. I can't say how many times I've listened to it. Imagine you're gonna have a good old-fashioned sun-worshipping party, and you want to get the most sun-worshippingest, dancingest, trance-inducingest band you can. Now listen to Vision Creation Newsun and see if they don't perfectly match that description. Here's the video for the first track off the album, Circle. It's been edited down, but you still get the effect.
The whole album jams like this, it's incredible.
Track 2, Star:Track 4, Spiral:There's way more I could show you, because I'm obviously a freak. But I just want to get you into the aesthetic.

Hey Fakta, its funny because most of what I've heard by the Boredoms, I didn't like (except for a video of the 99 BOADRUMS thing, which I was only watching in the first place because Pow Pow from Man Man was involved) but those songs that you posted are really awesome.
Are you familiar with Animal Collective, Black Dice, Dodos, or Grizzly Bear? I think you'd love them. Especially AC, I've been addicted to their stuff for a while now.
-
amp: I knew they did the soundtrack for Ichi, still haven't gotten around to watching the whole fucking movie though. Stoopid me. I've actually listened to Rovo, OOIOO and DJ pica pica pica before. Rovo's so sweet, the electric violin and the two drummers just does it for me, and Pyramid is insane. I just picked up OOIOO's Feather Float and I think it's my favorite album of theirs. PNLGW199999 is also intense, I love how he samples Jesus Christ Superstar. I had heard of Hanatarash but never given it a listen, probs because I tend to like later Boredoms stuff. I had never heard of Omoide Hatoba, but I'm gonna check them out right now.
You were at Boadrum9 too? I guess two Punajians were in the same room and didn't even know it. I can still remember that drum pattern they played towards the end. My friend went on mescaline, he had a PRETTY GOOD time.scott: Wow, that's a long way from Tom Goes to the Mayor. I saw HEALTH live this year, amazing band, amazing show.
Joshua: I've listened to AC before, I think Strawberry Jam's a great album but they're not my favorite. Maybe I need to see them live. For some reason I've never listened to the other ones, just more music I have to get around to listening to. I've been told I look like the blond guy from grizzly bear.
