Hey, David!

I like it, but I can't help but think that you could have so much more detail in there if it were bigger.
You should try that and post it....
-
Another self-portrait-thing, but I don't really like this one at all.

And an animated pixel-WIP, why not?
-
I like that one more than the first one..
-
Yeah, what Zach said.
Also, love that running dude. Just one thing: Why does his one step bring him lower than the other? Makes him look like he's limping, or has legs of different length or something.Oh and I just realized that his mouth isn't an eye, and that his eyes aren't eyebrows.
-
Hah. Go figure that everyone seems to prefer the second portrait over the first except me. Ah, well!
Running dude limp: it's something I did on purpose to see how it works to add variety to the motion. I may or may not remedy it, but I guess it'll depend on how it looks when everything's more finalized.
I recorded something today!

Extended Thoughts - 13:29 (MP3 @ 192 kb/s)
I've been posting these as well as writings and various other things on a blog here:

Yeah, I really love this stuff, as I told you on IRC.
-
really cool work man, i dig the high contrast stuff a lot.
-
Thanks, guys! Here's something I'm calling finished. It's a character for a friend's d20 game, or something:

As a side note, I'm hoping to record some more stuff either today or tomorrow.
-
haha this one made me chuckle a bit, well done on the facial expression
-

So, I uploaded this music, see? It's kind of an 'album.' Anyways, because I'm lazy, I'll just link to the post at rockandrollstrikesback:
-
What the fuck is that.
And there's more of that to come, whether you folks give a shit or not. -
on the last song i wish the vocal and guitar were more distinct
im not good with technical terms, but they seem to be crossing into each other in a way that just makes it hard to hear
-
Shaheeeeeen, I love you so much... this last one was beautiful and I'm so excited for the rest. :)
-
Hello. Here are some things from my sketchbook.

^Done with my friend Liz. There's a lot here, so I won't even bother differentiating who did what.

^This one was made by myself and my friend Mike. I mostly did detailing and some crap that ended up getting drawn over.

^Everything except the tube thing with branches was done by me on this one.

-
hey man, it's hard to respond in terms of critique, these are all really rough. the first one is my favorite, i kinda wanna see more of that. the "hairy" looking pieces are great, there's just the most flow and depth in them. i know you've probably heard this sometime in your life, but the only critique i can give is to study more anatomy.
ka-draw
-
Hey. Haven't been drawing too much lately, but definitely keeping up with the music. Here's a techno/house type track that I started up:
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/newesthouse.mp3
Nothing final yet, just a rough sketch.
-
Hey again. Two more things I've been working on.
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/hrrrm.mp3
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/screeeech.mp3Don't have too much to say. I'm just kinda doin' whatever. 8)
Been real pumped lately, so I'll probably actually be posting this thread up a bunch. -
Cool stuff man, I like Hrrrm.mp3 very swing-ey with raw synths, screeech.mp3 reminds me 90's techno/trance/sasha for some reason, it's like going back to the wipeout 2097 soundtrack.
All of this with a Lo-fi twist, sounds pretty original to me :)
-
Thanks! Much appreciated coming from someone with your experience in electronic music. :)
Working on something slightly different. May update a bit later today.
-
really cool man, i love screeeech. the beat really gets the feet shaking. i gotta agree with miguel, i think the lo-fi really gives them all a similar style, too
-
Thanks gnarf! It's nice to actually get responses on this stuff. I can't get shit for comments on facebook. :/
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/bassbass.mp3
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/rave.mp3Got these made up today. The 'rave' is one that I like for the sounds, but I don't entirely like the composition. I'll probably end up completely remixing it. I dunno.
The other one I'm pretty satisfied with, though I wouldn't call it finished. I'll probably pad it out a bit with some more depth/refining.
-
Hey man, I saw bassbass on facebook. I was gonna comment but...then I didn't. Anyway I thought it was cool. At least I remember it being cool. Can't listen to it at the moment. Will listen to both when I can, will try to be helpful if I can.
-
Haha, thanks Xion. I almost forgot I had some of you folk on there. :)
-
http://rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/baaaaah.mp3
http://rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/funfunfun.mp3Some new stuff. My mastering 'n' such has been real sloppy on these most recent ones, but I almost like the effect it has on some of these.
Also: would anyone be down to collab, remix, or get remixed themselves? Hit me up! potemkhris@gmail.com :)
-
oh man I'm loving funfunfun
-
Ha. Glad to hear it, Xion! :)
I haven't really gotten to a stopping point on making new things. I'll probably burn out and start doing work on finishing these off.http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/crystalcastles.mp3 (version 1)
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/untrustus.mp3 (revision 1)
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/untrustus2.mp3 (revision 2)A remix of Crystal Castles' "Untrust Us."
EDIT: Updated the mix. Still sounds a bit crap, but the sounds are a bit easier to handle.
EDIT part 2: A friend of mine just told me basically that the beginning of this version clips the shit out of his speakers. Anyone else? Sounds fine for me. :(
EDIT part 3: Just updated this thang again. -
Hey. Bumpin' this time. Yet another revision of the Crystal Castles remix:
http://www.rockandrollstrikesback.com/shaheen/untrustusc.mp3I think I'm finished with this, but the only thing I'm really interested in changing is the resulting sound. I don't have good equipment to really check out how this sounds, like, on good speakers and whatnot. Basically I just want to know if the bass is under control for you guys? Sounds fine for me, but. Yeah.
-
I have a pair of KRK Rokit RP5 monitors and sounds fine, altho the overall mix of the song sounds a bit muddy. You have a lot elements clashing, for example your bass and your kick are melting with distortion, when they should operate on different frequencies. For this kind of music i would recomment sitting your kick above your bass with sidechaining, this way you will have that pumping effect on the kick without the clashing frequencies problems. Also there is this middle sound/pad that repeats over and over it has a lot of resonance and its eating your frequency spectrum; try to notch down that element, navigate with an eq to find the highest resonance frequency area and then notch that freq area a little bit, then eq out the unwanted frequencies.
I would really make the snare stand out with some 909 snare layers and boosting the 250hz area for that thumping effect you must be looking for. Just to add the cherry on top of the cake I would really turn up the highs, this is why your mix sounds muddy, after you have done all of this put a limiter and make the bitch pump.
-
If you want me to, I can mix your track to show you exactly what I mean. Did you use Ableton Live for this?
