    hi punaji!

    uh I really should be scanning my sketchbook for y'all to crit and stuff but I thought I'd start off with something easy, all the digisketches I did in oC this month.

    I know some of you don't like dumps and neither do I so I'll try to post work spontaneously in the future!

    really like the last white bg one, some nice things going on. i'd say work on face and head construction more. the shapes are a bit off usually. work from life more i guess? like use references or study anatomy in general maybe. good clean lines though. i like your hair shading.

    oooo, the hair's tasty. i know this is just a dump, so all i can say is just keep drawing. your line quality, the way you're using thick and thin lines for form, is lookin' great

    yes!

    @ampersand: NICECRITS I did some life drawing just a tiny bit I'll scan my sketchbook tomorrow morning. Agreed I really need to train up.

    @gnarf: it's all about carving . < .

    @will: ok

    three digithings which are not yet finished, sorry to disappoint on not doing hair

    Neat rendering. Diggin' those fruit uptop. The only thing I'd offer as critique is that I agree with ampersand on face/head construction, and to add to that, I'm noticing some definite trends forming in the way you draw faces (ex: a lot of the males up there have the same or very similar noses).

    scans

    dat nose

    @shaheen: ok! awesome, I really didn't see that trend thank you SO much for pointing it out. I have no idea why I subconsciously like that nose so much. Looks rather silly repeated so much. so I guess dumps are a nice thing to do.

    Hand is the only from life thing, it's my left. fingers are poop. I can never capture the right balance of lights and darks with my scans by the way. my background hatching just falls away into the abyss so I wind up scribbling it out after I scan. Anyone got any tips? I'm kind of just kicking down the brightness so the lighter marks show.

    The three digipaintings in my last post are in ancient ps, no real line quality there yet. I should probably do more in oC but I'm used to the ps painting system.

    oh yeah blind contour

    That's pretty good digital rendering. Most photoshop rendering I see from people starting out is shit. Nice colors. Work more in pencils , it's easy to learn objects that way. Charcoals are good for learning to understand volume.

    hey thanks

    By the way, yeah I'm working in some other mediums but the two main paintings I'm working on right now are in my art classroom and I have no phone...

    The one I think I'll post next is charcoal, pencil, gouache, acrylic, on canvas. but it feels pretty empty. not like the subject matter is special, boo. another boring profile. we'll see if I can't get a snapshot of that.

    his lips are too thin, I think. Looks more like a dark-skinned white dude with a huge red nose. Otherwise pretty sweet.

    And yeah, you definitely drew a painted white man, lol. Why did she want you to paint a black man???

    I don't know if this is a bad thing but a lot of your side profiles seem to be facing the left.

    Thank you everyone.

    @xion: whoops yeah. even my lips are bigger than that! and I'm the definition of white.

    @gnarf: you would, wouldn't you. : D

    @darion: she's the best.

    @Viktor: I noticed that a while ago but don't think there's a problem with it, it just feels the most natural.

    Speaking of leftward faces:

    Two hours so far. The lighting changed so I had to stop. (haven't really done much to the right side yet)

    opinions? I've got until tomorrow when I make a print and hand it in.

    just a tiny bit burned into my eyeballs so I need a little bit of time before I make final adjustments and refinements

    I like it a lot. Though, his bottom lip looks like it has a gash out of it, and the way his nose is makes it look like his right nostril is really high up on his face. The skin tones are a little too close to clay for my tastes, and his eyes are dry. Though, to be fair, I'm a sucker for overly glossy, I'm-about-to-cry looking eyes.

    And, in response to your scans up there, the world can always use more House/Hugh Laurie drawings.

    very nice man. the only thing that's bothering me is that his left side falls flat. you should have a curvature of light around the cheek and forehead to really round that out. hope that's clear.

    otherwise, it's lookin' sweet

    hey sorry for not getting back with my revision, never got around to it. Would hate to look like I was ignoring critique. Worked on it with David's advice in mind before I had to catch the bus in the morning last monday. It's a self portrait by the way. As such, yeah I had to keep the dry eyes and harsh division in my lower lip.

    @gnarf: I was wearing a hood, so that flatness is caused by the shadow cast by it! : D
    I got an A-, and it was kind of late ._.

    Sketchbook! I should work bigger but I'm addicted to pressing my nose against the page . U .

    the random challenge on pixelation... I don't know what to think of it so I kind of stopped working on it.

    Those new faces look really nice dude, but I think they would benefit from a little more working to smooth out some of the brush lines and stuff. There are also some generally oddities in the anatomy of both faces, particularly the jaw outline on the left of the first one, and the right of the second one, but otherwise they're very nice man. Skin tones are difficult to imitate, since skin is somewhat translucent, meaning it picks light up in an interesting way.

    it might help if you work bigger, that way you have more liberty with your brush sizes. in addition to what quark said, the second dude's neck is pretty thin, and both have seemingly small bodies, giving the appearance of big heads. they look good though, keep it up.

    i dig your skintones man. i agree with ampersand on the size restraint. as for the neck, it's not a problem to me. it adds to his character. for example, if you made his face a little more nervous, he'd seem like a wimpy knight to me. with a beefier neck, that would all change.

    good stuff

    Thanks for the nice comments!

    @quark: eek yeah face anomalies, didn't see them. Totally will be wary of cheek contours in the future.

    @ampersand: yus. Small neck was kind of intentional on the second one but I didn't quite complete the look. I had originally imagined him really stressed and as gnarf said, nervous. But I got carried away with the yellows and got caught between expressions. Absolutely understand and note the big head syndrome I seem to have.

    @gnarf: right on! will try to work bigger in the future, I usually do but as of late I enjoy seeing the pixels as they will appear. little fetish from pixel art I think.

    Latin project. Again 1:1 paintings, but since it's not like an actual art project, I was having fun with speedpaints, and I don't think the brushes showing is actually relevant here. But I'll definitely get back into the habit of drawing at 2:1!

    reminds me of my sketchbook, with all the floating heads.
    i like the "nemo potest" one best of these new ones, the shape of the guys head in 'odysseus retegit' seems off in some way, i think it's that the forehead slopes back so steeply that, combined with the weight of all that hair on the back, gives the head a slanted/sloping feel. Also the spear throw looks like a toss but I'm sure you know that.

    and just to catch up: triforce crotch, dr house, and gameboy guy are my favorites
