Hey guys, I've got a lot of art that I made during the hiatus, but unfortunately I haven't had access to a scanner as of late, so for now you'll have to settle for a lone WIP of my first school project:

    reference:Here.

So, uh, wow, that's amazing. Be sure to post the finished version. Right now the lines I see don't create much depth, but once it's all fleshed out I'm sure it will be fine. The negative work on the top is just amazing, man, I never would have thought you'd be doing this kind of work a few years ago. Not that it wouldn't be good, but this is just so serious and focused and just gorgeous.

DONE!!!! This beast took quite a long ass time. 20+ hours worth of work.

Let me know what you all think :)

Oh yeah, here's a painting I did this summer too.

    holy tits riot is boss.
the other thing is cool too, but I don't feel right judging it as I feel the photo does it no justice, p'raps? From what I can see though looks like the foreground is a bit flat kind of?

The charcoal piece is nice; The rendering of the fire is absolutely gorgeous. I don't know what the assignment was but I'd like to see you work from photographs that YOU take. ( if you did take that you're crazy : D) The text is a bit dark and almost seems more like an oddly placed signature. As for the painting- the rays are very well done and the composition is nice. The texture in the bottom left is flattening, and the tree doesn't quite work for me. Also its verging on a " green grass blue sky" kind of deal, don't be afraid to break up colors- or enhance the landscape with " unnatural" colors to create or enhance the mood; it's your reality, make it how you please.

ff: thanks for the kind words on the Riot! picture. I wish I took it, but for the sake of the project, it was more to be an exercise in charcoal use and working in a style reminiscent of an artist Malcolm Morley. But you're right, I need to start working from personal photos aka, I need to start taking more photos.

Here's the other school project I'm currently working on. It's a set of 12 4x6 photoshopped images with various requirements (currently in no particular order):

All of these look fairly nice to me( although i'm not one who goes totally crazy over photomanips) except for the last one.

and also instead of just photos you could draw from LIFE :]

Aight guys, here's the accompanying painting thus far that I've had to do of the same picture. It's due on Monday, so I'll be finishing it today, so expect that later on tonight or tomorrow.

well, it's finally done. After 40+ hours of work, I have a nice charcoal drawing and acrylic painting. I feel really relieved to have it done with, it's hard to work on the same image for practically 2 months. Let me know what you think, I can't really change anything at this point since it's due tomorrow but I'm always open to feedback

gnarf: when I get them back I'll be sure to do just that. I don't think I'll be getting this project back for at least 2 weeks, that's my guess. When I do I'll get those going.

Wish I had more to show, but sadly my scanner is missing the USB cord, and I haven't done much else to take pictures of yet. I should have something by the weekend.

Ok, here's what's going on now! I've been hella busy at school with projects, on top of trying to be productive in my free time, doing whatever the hell else I'm doing, but here is my most recent painting, and my first foray into oils. Let me tell you, it's nothing like acrylic. I'm slowly learning this.

    The painting.

    The reference.

Accompanying pastel drawing. There's a second one I don't have a photo of yet, forget to get one.

    Three detail shots so far.

And gnarf and whoever else was interested, 2 detail shots from the charcoal, and 2 from the painting.

More on the way later. The painting's due next wednesday, and I want to finish it by monday.

the painting is comming along, oils are hard yes.. but way more fundamentally sound. try working from dark to light and vice versa, also make sure you're layering, using liquin and such. this will give more life to the color, from what I can tell right now, the white blobs are making the colors dead.. so either darken your other values, in reality you shouldn't use a white there.. maybe it's a filler? I guess it could work.

zach: the white areas are still blank canvas, I haven't painted there at all yet. I've been working my darks mostly as I'm still kinda hesitant on working the light areas. Thanks for the pointers though man, I appreciate it :)

    So I finished the painting:

It came out better than I was initially expecting, and I'm generally satisfied with the result. I really need to delve deeper into oils after this.

Also, the other pastel drawing that went with it:

Let me know what you think!
