I love this stuff, esp the last one! I have a couple of crits tho.

Your selout is pretty random imho, you are actually making the outlines look more jagged. A good example imo is Kenneth Fejer's selout; Take a look how he takes lighting properties into account when doing selout. Impressive shading and detail.

The last one.. I love it so far but imho I see our amazing hero in a very stiff position.

xion man, your work is really improving and looking great

i gotta agree with miguel on the stiff pose in the last one. you could really push the counter posture.

just some ideas, you don't gotta click unless you don't mind the edit. sorry if you didn't want any edits too
    click

also, check the chest on the giant, it's a little weird to me, but i can't put my finger on it.

this is all looking excellent man. just doing the edit, i learned a few things for color choicing.

Thanks alot dudes, I'll definitely play with the chick's posing in the last one. Edits, gnarf, are always welcome, usually.

And yeah Miguel, I'll work on mah selout as well.

Haven't worked on it yet, as I've been doing some pixel jobs 'n stuff, will get back to as soon as I finish.

I just realized the one I posted wasn't the most recent. The most recent had the pillar the chick is on half finished already, and some other changes.

anyway I noticed some stupid lighting stuff (such as the sun totally not being the lightsource [thus missing the opportunity for some dramatic shadows and sweet contrast {or as I call it sweettrast} ] ). Tried to attend to those issues. Also tried a new pose for the chick, but I think she looks way off balance? Will probably mess with more.

guessing this is your art thread, eh?

whatever, about Catacomb Kids. I played again and got this overpowered fire enchanted sword. I did pretty well and but I died because I was jumped on until I died! Had no chance to escape the death ( I was stuck in a 16x16 space ) and saw my little guy losing whole 20 HP for some skeleton jumped on his ass, lame. I suggest you should delete the ability to hit when you jump on enemies, and the same for enemies. I'm not angry or something, but I lost my 1337 fire sword ffs!

Also got some ideas, except the idea about savepoints, you should being able to design your character in the start :- ) and if possible choose gender too! Also wondering whats the different between the iron and tree door, and what can you do with all your money?

edit: Something came up on my mind about some game you were working at before. Te bon.. something. Any chance to test it even if its unfinished? Remembered that I loved the way it looked like :- )

edit: I fking finished the game!!!!! or not finished but couldn't go any further floor..

Thanks alot for the feedback, mang :)

Infinite jump death: Yes that is indeed a problem. Others have complained about it as well. I shall resolve it posthaste!

Different genders would be cool! I had planned on, rather than customizing your own character, you'd be given a list of like six or so different ones to choose from. Rolls and rerolls and such.

Gray door regenerates current floor (mainly to make sure you don't get stuck on an impossible level). It's the one you enter through.

Brown door goes to next level.

    Congrats on the win!

I've actually added a floor 10 boss since that version, and am planning on upping the floorage to 20, so he'll be the halfway point.

And judging from that screen I need to tone Enchant Armor the hell down. :O Maybe a limit of 3 enchants per armor or something.

Te Bonjeth is on hold until I finish this. I'll think about shewin' what I have later but it's late now and I'm sleepy.

Figured out the door difference later :p About the Infinite jump death I've changed my mind. Actually you can find magic who helps you out in this kind of situations, like blink, only cost 1 MP.

It's true you need some kind of limit witt Enchant Armor, I were pretty much Immortal, or not, but I could take on 20 mobs straight simply. A question, any chance there was some "Enchant weapon" magic? And about magics, you should being able to delete magics because the limit is 15 and it's more magics than that.

Still wondering what you can do with your money (gold?) :p Maybe if possible you can find a shop every fifth level or something? And about the boss. I don't like the way he look alike, he doesn't have the same style as the other characthers in the game and feels like someone else made it.

And about the mobs, it should be some kind of 'stronger' mob in every level who drops some better items. Doesn't like that your only way to find enchanted weapons are from chests.

catacomb kids is a blast man. i'd say really keep working on it and polish it up if you aren't already. it's a deeper game than i thought it would be.

Noet: I think I'll still actually do something with the continuous jump. Maybe make it so that enemies can only jump on you thrice consecutively, and give the player boons for bouncing on 'em for a long-ass time.

The only permanent weapon enchantment in so far is Apply poison.

Forgetting magics is a good idea, I hadn't expected players to learn so many spells so fast.

Money doesn't do anything, yet. I was actually just gonna have it be a score type dealio, but shops would be cool.

Boss looks better in-game, I think. His head and hands are about twice the size of the player, thought they could get away with some more detailed stylin's.

Rare stronger mobs. Yes. Thanks. Will do.

Gnarf: Thanks much :). Am deffo still working on it.

    Working on a new level generator;

Hey xion, I played Catacomb Kids to level 10 last night, I think it's really great. Moving around feels super nice, combat a little less so, but I think I was beginning to get the hang of it later on.

I'm liking the look of the new level generator, the levels were my biggest complaint in the previous version. It looked too random. To be honest I would like to see even more distinct rooms, and more variety between areas (I mean within a level) so that exploration becomes more interesting. Like, maybe a few spots are a ratmans' den or a goblins' den. Maybe some places with torches on the wall. I don't know, something to make it feel more 'designed' (and I mean in terms layout, like maybe have a few more rectangular rooms). Right now it seems more like Cave Kids than Catacomb Kids.

    Really top notch.

So I've been working on CK alot lately. Got the new level generator implemented, it's real nice. I have alot more control over things, so adding things like rat dens or goblin dens should be no problem. Having a hard time keeping my ambitions for this thing under control though. Not sure where I'll stop. Guess I'll know when it happens.

    unrelatedly,

Your animation skills are getting to be some of the best out there, seriously. You've gotten a huge grasp on it, and I am totally envious. Also, while I'm here I thought I just though I'd share that I'm glad you've revamped CK's room creation system, as the last one felt very claustrophobic and generally unfun to travel through. It was definitely my least favourite part of your game thus far, so it's good to see you've improved it. I hope to see more from you on that in the future, you're showing butt-loads of potential.

holy hell man, so smooth. i wish the spine was as dynamic as the other ones tho. i'm sure you looked at reference for this, but it almost seems like there should be a curve from the neck to the spine, the head stays very stiff. you could also push the whole body down a bit more on the contact position to really get the feel of a gallop. the other ones are beautifully rendered as well man.

you really got an a great sense of animation

Thanks mang :) I knew something was off, but I couldn't place it. The back! so plainly visible now that you point it out.

    any better?

    about face

I actually didn't use a reference since I was thinking of this thing as a horse (what with it being a mount and all) when its anatomy is closer to like a dogs' I guess, so when I looked up a horse reference I was all like "this doesn't help at all" so I just winged it.

much better man, you got a small bump that goes up when his legs stretch out full, right above his bum. it keeps catching my eye, so it could just be me, but i almost want his whole body to stretch out at that point rather than having any parts squash in.

also that turn is looking smooth. i think you could add a small arch to his head: goes down and then back up. i notice a slight one you got going, but maybe because it keeps looping it becomes harder to see

    really really liking these

Dude, those legs are GIGANTIC! Based on the top half, they could afford to be slimmed down a little bit. Either that, or make the torso taller/bigger.

Also, the feet positions are really awkward and uncomfortable. The right (his left) is probably fine, but the right one is too side-viewish. Try and find a photo-reference online of a similar stance, it would probably help.

I really like the head, this needs to be colored!
