I don't think I could work alone anywhere. When I'm alone I just do this academic stuff.

Woahhhhh now
Let's not throw that A word around like that.
Or pretty soon you'll be reduced to paint splatters and color fields.

i should be done with the arm section by wednesday

got these shaky days where it all looks like shit
just gotta work
paintings will begin shortly

see lurkers? its okay to post
This is some hot shit, Retro, I should get off my ass and learn stuff like this.
yeah man, these are lookin great and your line quality is really improving.
inane: its easy once you start
thanks gnarf, incrementally

Stuff from the past seven months

a better picture of bacchus
I logged in just to say that I am completely envious of every single one of those and wish that I was the one that had made them. Well, I guess I don't really dig the first painting all that much, but those sketches. Fuck yes, sucker.
Are those really called sacred dimples? because that's kind of funny.
Also I really love that negative space skeleton. I mean damn. That's hot.
I saw the shoes picture and was like "holy shit is that a painting of shoes" and then I was like "oh."
David: Thank you
Xion: Nah, I wish. They're 'sacral'.
dude, that is impressive. the middle red on the girl i think is a tiny bit jarring for a skintone, maybe a slightly different hue could work, but not a big deal. that is very very nice,, damn. I second david and xion as well. the skeleton and the studies are amaaaaazin
second and fourth sketchs and the skele outline; so dope. keep it up brotha!
Thirded. The skeleton is tight. I really like how well you can capture poses, and make them feel completely natural.
Beautiful work. I really love your lines, especially those thick outlines, like on the statues. The skeleton is absolutely my favorite; the contrast between the simplicity of the outline and the very detailed background is stunning.
Man I didn't think much of the skeleton, I spent a while on it but dont rate it much, thanks guys.
Ampersand: I see what you're saying, thats a lesson Ill take from that piece for sure, good eye. The chalk has a bit of a learning curve.
Will: Thanks for the encouragement.
DancinBoogieMan: Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it.
Dorsa: I think I'll have to try that skeleton technique again then, I have an idea starting.
Just got a picture taken of this piece, finished it earlier this winter. Not satisfied, looking at redoing. Its three by four feet. Or four by three?
draw some hand spiders! really starting to dig the impressionist strokes you do, namely his shoulder and the blue on his robe

Shit, you got way too good. I need to keep up. Last 2 are beautiful.
yeah damn man, these are nice. ridiculous. great figures and rendering. ovals on the stool on the 5th one are off which throws off the realism. the stool in general doesn't quite fit in. but you probably know that already.
i'm also almost tempted to say that some outlines are too heavy, but i dunno in some it kinda works out nicely. keep it up.
no don't say the outlines are heavy. I loves me some outlines. Lay that ish down thick-like. Yeah. Some fat-ass outlines. Like that. Oh yeah. Work it baby. You know what I like.
Also: I really can't stand you. Nothing personal.
What medium are the two penultimate ones?
edit: also also; This is the Longest Page.
you're improving so fast man
and i love the heavy outlines as well. 3rd one from the bottom, the folds on the back of the skirt thingy blew me away. i think on the last one tho, her head may either be too small or her right arm, specifically the bicep, may be too large. great stuff tho man
Yeah, I've gone from envying to just plain ol' hating you.
Agreed. The shading on the fabric of the second to last one is incredible.
forgotten figure: Thanks man
ampersand: yes I recognized that stool but I just cant be bothered, and I agree about the lines I think I need to work on my rhythmn more for sure
xion: Now Im paranoid that you think Im a jerk. For the record, I think you're awesome so I hope you don't. Also, the penultimate set are white chalk and charcoal, and much larger than all the others.
gnarf: enough people have told me a beef up my model that Im sure its true, and I bet you're correct about the head. I think Ive had a lot of realizations about how it is one gets better at drawing so that has sped up my development I think. Im happy you think I am getting better.
David: Haha, I've always hated your (i am not) originality
Dorsa: Thank you.
gorgeous renderings. Awesome work man!
No, man, I don't think you're a jerk. Rather the opposite, but once someone gets so awesome diminishing returns kick in and they become the target of my ire. I can't really help it it just happens.
I'm kidding, by the way <3 Mad respect. You're like a noble final boss and I'm still just an unlikely-hero wannabe in the first dungeon, flailing around the old wooden sword that belonged to my grandfather, smashing defenseless slimes and rats and calling it monster slaying, while elsewhere real heroes are losing their lives in a war, man, a war, and I have no idea what a monster is.
Anyway.
Something's bothering me about the way the marks on the arm of this newest one don't follow the contours around the form the way they do on the leg...I see you've done it this way before in previous pics but it just seems to stand out to me in the last one for some reason.
Also, I've got to say, I love your omission of details - like it's overexposed. I always get caught up in over-rendering and fuck shit up.
Yeah I agree about the arm, that was the wrong decision. Lesson (beginning to be) learned.
Heres the entire concentration for my AP drawing portfolio (or, how I made this page unmanagably huge)

So this is what happens when you draw draw draw and don't stop. All that anatomy study did you really fucking well. And those folds. THE FOLLLLLLLDS!
When are we going to see another painting from you?
