my fetching gosh. I am truly in love with your style here. Especially that of the pencil-drawn ones. You can definitely tell you have a great understanding of anatomy under all this stylish-yumminess. Nothing to say because I'm in pure amazement. Time to step up my game I guess :X

You draw how I want to. Sometimes we draw similarly, but then I look at your stuff and you're so much better than me.

    And then I'm like "aw."

    And then I'm like: awe

great rendering compliments your lines tight style. They suggest a lot of life and weight.
I love your sense of characters, creepy but cute in a weird melancholy way

I'd like to see full on compositions with more color, something I think that would test your rendering skills. I suggest more life drawing, I think it might add more imagination with lighting and creative flow, as of now I see a high contrated lightsource, and naked men.

    wow, thanks guys

and i appreciate the crits zach, i really do need to move out of some boundaries. all my drawings don't suggest enough distinction in the subject when you think about it. too many naked men, too.

This kinda shit happens every year!

Hah, nice. Definitely dig the efficient use of lines for showing volume on this one.

I swear, Gnarf, if I could draw with such simple, fluid lines and a quality as consistent as you, I'd consider it a crime against the world to ever lift pen from paper.

Those b/w's are fucking sensational man, i don't know what you're talking about calling them boring. The guy running is bursting with style, I honestly love it. I wish I could get as much movement in my pieces.

big thanks for the kind words guys, sadly i don't draw enough. i'm just getting myself back on track after...a girl, who i think about more than ever. but that doesn't matter.

started painting, it's been nearly over a year.

gouache on 19x24 bristol, using ultramarine blue and permanent yellow deep

    detail

i'm done with this one, i can't get myself to add anything more to it. and the still life i used is gone

    and a sketcho

Hmmm, I'm speaking from personal preference, but I would have loved to see the blue and yellow mixing some in the first one.

i see what you mean, i subtly mixed the blue and came out with a mushier yellow. i really wanted to give it a reflection of blue tho.

not to make excuses but i'm a gouache trainee at the moment. i should probably be doing more experimenting tho. it's weird 'cause if you add too much water, you get a watercolor look, and not enough gives you a very dry acrylic which doesn't expand the paint enough. i'm just getting the hang of it.

the pen on the other side leaked through on the scan, didn't know how to fix it.

i think imageshack hates me for not crediting them, because my pics don't always show up.

    so...thanks Imageshack

I'm absolutely loving these man. I really can't say much in way of critique

took out the blue for ya...

    i dig

some of the blur between symbolism and reality is uncomfortable for me, but overall

    nice stuff

i like the rendering the fleshiness

    thank you thank you man

could you elaborate on that though?

take the last image for instance

    realistic elements: form and light

symbolic elements: round eyes, teeth, ears, body shape

It like trying to shade anime or something, just a little incongruent to me

But thats taste, I'm not saying youre wrong

edit: looking over your stuff it seems youve done that more than once, and most of it is more ok to me, so what do I know?

That's actually part of what makes me like this stuff so much, that mix.

i understand what you mean, retro. the last one, more of an experimentation with that idea. i do it moreso with pencils and i end up really liking the way those turn out. it's almost subconscious now. i didn't really like the way his face or arm came out in the last one, i use harsher shades in my other black and white stuff.

reading over your guys' comments tho, i think it's becoming a stylistic choice of mine.

    thanks yos
